Sometimes a very special cat enters our lives …
their presence changes our hearts forever.
And we can call ourselves blessed for having known them.

Yesterday afternoon, our beautiful Zoey went to her final rest. She was losing the struggle with end-stage kidney disease and, that morning, when she tried to eat, she couldn’t pick up the food. She trembled with the effort. Jenna and I took her to the vet, and she died in my arms.
We are missing her desperately and, despite the fact that Hunter is still here, the house somehow feels empty. But we know without a doubt that this was the right decision.

If love alone could have kept you here,
you would have lived forever.

Rest well, sweet Zoey. Wait for me at the Rainbow Bridge.

This morning, I woke with a song playing in my head. “All my life you have been faithful, all my life you have been so, so good. With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God.”
As I lay there using the words as a prayer, I realized that for the first time in two weeks, I was not afraid to get up, not afraid of what I would find when I opened the door. Zoey is as rest and so am I.
I can, and I will, sing of the Goodness of God!

The Lord gave me what I had,
and the Lord has taken it away.
Praise the name of the Lord!”
