Many of us have had the playground experience of being chosen last or nearly last. What a blow to a child’s developing self-worth. The subtle message is “I-don’t-really-want-you-but-I-have-to-take-you-anyway-because-it’s-the-rules.” That hurt can last, coloring life with the pain. And it can’t be pretended away.
But here is the good news. God chose you – first!
You were chosen before creation: God chose us to belong to Christ before the world was created. He chose us to be holy and without blame in his eyes. He loved us. Ephesians 1:4 New International Reader’s Version
You were chosen before birth: The Lord said, “Before I formed you in your mother’s body I chose you.
Before you were born I set you apart to serve me.” Jeremiah 1:5a New International Reader’s Version
You were chosen for a purpose: “You didn’t choose me, remember; I chose you, and put you in the world to bear fruit, fruit that won’t spoil. As fruit bearers, whatever you ask the Father in relation to me, he gives you.” John 15:16 The Message
You were chosen and called: But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. 1 Peter 2:9-10 The Message
You were chosen by Love: God has chosen you. You are holy and loved by Him. Because of this, your new life should be full of loving-pity. You should be kind to others and have no pride. Be gentle and be willing to wait for others. Colossians 3:12 New Life Version
As those who are chosen, blessed, broken,
and given, we are called to live our lives
with a deep inner joy and peace.
It is the life of the Beloved,
lived in a world constantly trying to convince us
that the burden is on us to prove
that we are worthy of being loved.
Henri Nouwen
God will never abandon you, ignore you, divorce you.
God will never “un-choose” you!
God chose Mary. God chose Joseph.
AND GOD CHOSE YOU!
You have always been – and always will be –
special and loved.
