Wisdom

Posted on January 15, 2024 by Pam R

In the Biblical sense, wisdom is the “ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding.” (Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary)

It is so hard to know what to do when life throws a curveball. We want to “judge correctly and follow the best course,” but there are so many options and so little certainty. We don’t know and we don’t understand.

It is one of God’s greatest blessings that wisdom is ours for the asking. And that has always been true.

**********

The Eternal is ready to share His wisdom with us,
    for His words bring true knowledge and insight;
Proverbs 2:6 The Voice

**********

Wisdom is the power to put our time and our knowledge to the proper use.
Thomas J. Watson

**********

Reverence for the Eternal is the first step toward wisdom.
All those who worship Him have a good understanding.
His praise will echo through eternity!
Psalm 111:10 The Voice

**********

Not until we have become humble and teachable,
standing in awe of God’s holiness and sovereignty,
acknowledging our own littleness,
distrusting our own thoughts,
and willing to have our minds turned upside down,
can divine wisdom become ours.
J.I. Packer

**********

If you don’t have all the wisdom needed for this journey,
then all you have to do is ask God for it;
and God will grant all that you need.
He gives lavishly and never scolds you for asking.
James 1:5 The Voice

**********

As we trust God to give us wisdom for today’s decisions,
He will lead us a step at a time into
what He wants us to be doing in the future.

Theodore Epp

**********

The wisdom that comes from God is first utterly pure,
then peace-loving, gentle, approachable,
full of tolerant thoughts and kindly actions,
with no breath of favoritism or hint of hypocrisy.
And the wise are peace-makers
who go on quietly sowing for a harvest of righteousness—
in other people and in themselves.
James 3:17-18 J.B. Phillips New Testament

**********

“The more humble and obedient to God a man is,
the more wise and at peace he will be in all that he does.”
Thomas à Kempis, The Inner Life

**********

Teach us to number our days
so that we may truly live and achieve wisdom.
Psalm 90:12 The Voice
