Everyone differs in abilities, talents and gifts, in kind, amount, and motivation. Think about it:
ABILITY: competence in doing something; skill
God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings. 1 Peter 4:10 Living Bible
I have the ability to organize. It is not something I studied or chose; it has always been there. (My mother might disagree, considering the state of my childhood bedroom, but that same child repeatedly organized the family phonograph albums.) You might say organizing is my happy place.
We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.
Stevie Wonder
TALENT: the natural endowments of a person
Doing easily what others find difficult is talent…
Henri Frederic Amiel
Not quite the same quote; the key words here are “can,” “willing,” and “well.” I took both violin and piano lessons but lacked the necessary motivation. Still, I can appreciate what it takes to excel musically, and I still enjoy making music.
SPIRITUAL GIFT: a power or ability bestowed by God naturally or supernaturally for the purpose of serving God.
There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord. There are different ways the Spirit works. But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 New International Reader’s Version
People often think they have no gift because it isn’t listed in the Bible. But the Creator of everything can use anything He wants for His purpose.
Trying to identify your Gift?
But I don’t think it matters if we know what our Gift is. God knows, and He will provide opportunities to use it. I also suspect that Gifts can vary over the course of a lifetime. And who dares limit the hand of God in His giving?
So, the basic principle is: Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 NIV
For we are God’s masterpiece.
He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,
so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
With whatever abilities, talents and gifts we have.
