The week had been hard for my mother. She had not felt well and she was worrying about her children. (That is, of course, what mothers do. All mothers.)
But one day last week, she got up from her afternoon nap, opened the curtains and suddenly saw that one of her orchid plants was blooming! Unexpectedly! And not just blooming: there were 5 flowers and 4 more buds!
Mom immediately recognized this as a gift from God, a blessing just for her. And as she considered the Love that brought blooms to an orchid, she made another connection: the flowers were for her 5 children, the buds for her 4 grandchildren. And she felt a peaceful certainty that because the Father had them all in His hand, all the ones she loved would be okay.
For my mother, now, an orchid is a manifestation of that Grace that comforts the sad and companions the lonely and never, never abandons us.
The Lord gives strength to his people. The Lord blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 29:11 New International Reader’s Version

Lord, I know all these unexpected blessings come from You.
Thank You for being so good to me.
