With the family rooms and kitchen cleaned and treated, the cats were free to roam. The next day they went to the vet to have that other little matter cared for. Were we finally going to come out of the woods?
We were. The two kittens we got back from their worming, done at the vets’ with an overnight stay, were entirely different. Gone was the diarrhea. Gone was the crying and whining for our food. It was obvious that we now had two healthy animals. The problem had been solved.
One more flea treatment was needed. My son assured me that he had prayed and that this would end our problems. When we finished, we were sitting together with the kittens as they groomed out their fur. As we watched, a flea walked drunkenly across Archie’s back and collapsed onto the sofa. I was in despair, but my son was confident.
“That flea is dying, Mom. You won’t see any more. God’s promised.”
And so it was. We have never had a problem with fleas again. It had been a time of great delight and a time of dark despair, delight in their antics and loving behavior, despair at the continued medical problems. But it was over. Now we could finally pray, “Thank you, Lord, for bringing these, Your most delightful creatures, into our lives. Amen”
Another benefit of our cat experience has also surfaced. I have informed my family that from now on, every time they forget my birthday, I get two more cats! Sadly, their memory has greatly improved!
Master, when I came to You,
I had many problems, too.
And I’m grateful every day
That You did not “give” me away.
But instead You patiently
Cured each sin-wrought malady,
Took my place on Calvary
That from sin I might be free.
Great Physician, Thee I bless,
I’m healed by Your Righteousness.
And this, Your creature, now is free
To be what You made her to be.
