We are used to dealing with squirrels in the bird feeders all winter. But in the summer? Well, yes, this one decided he wanted the hummingbird food.
He began (I assume it’s a he) by climbing the post and anchoring himself to the hook. Then, as a couple of hummingbirds watched in astonishment, he popped the little yellow “flowers” from the feeder, tilted it … and drank it dry.
(I’m wondering now if this is the same squirrel I saw helping himself to green tomatoes from my neighbor’s garden.)
The next day, I moved the feeder to a shepherd’s hook a couple of feet away.
Sorry, squirrel. It had to be done. Go eat acorns. No one else wants them.
