Lord, you have made so many things!
How wise you were when you made all of them!
The earth is full of your creatures.
Psalm 104:24 New International Reader’s Version
It’s autumn and the squirrels are going nuts. (See what I did there?) They are chasing each other around, up the trees and on the ground. You would think they would use that energy to store more food for winter!
The other day, on my way to get the mail, I met a squirrel. He was coming around the corner of the sidewalk with an acorn in his mouth. We both stopped and looked at each other, then, with an excess of caution, he bolted across the street. I can’t think why. All I said was, “Hello, there!”
There was a chipmunk running across the patio, stopping every few feet to readjust the cargo in its mouth. Gotta make sure to get the groceries home!
I was sitting in the living room when a squirrel climbed quickly up the screen. It got to the top, stopped, and turned around. I can’t imagine what it thought it was going to find. It made its way slowly back down, pausing every few inches. Did it see Hunter watching it? Finally, it got almost nose to nose with the cat. I wondered if it was passing the time of day or asking directions. Hunter just looked back at it. I don’t think he speaks squirrel.
As God contains all good things, He must also contain a sense of playfulness — a gift he has shared with Creatures other than ourselves, as witness the tricks Crows play, and the sportiveness of Squirrels, and the frolicking of Kittens. Margaret Atwood
God looked at everything he had made,
and he was very pleased. Genesis 1:31a Good News Translation
Thank You, Father. The things You’ve made delight me, too. Amen.
