Corrie ten Boom
A couple of weeks ago, I highlighted Anne Frank. Her words, written as she lived during a horrendous time, shine for the reader.
Corrie ten Boom was a Dutch Christian watchmaker who, along with her father and sister, hid Jews from the Nazis. Like Anne Frank, she was sent to a concentration camp. Unlike Anne, though, she survived the war and began to tell of her experiences. As her sister, Betsie said,
“We must tell people what we have learned here. We must tell them that there is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still. They will listen to us, Corrie, because we have been here.”
Her life and her books speak of hope and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. She has much to teach us. We have much to learn.
On Worry
Worries carry responsibilities that belong to God, not to you. Worry does not enable us to escape evil; it makes us unfit to cope with it when it comes. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.
On Discouragement
If it’s dark everywhere, you can become so discouraged. You might doubt whether light still exists. But even if you can’t see the Lord, He sees you and me. Jesus said, ‘And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ (Matt. 28:20). When it’s necessary, He suddenly says, ‘I’m still here!’
On Trouble
Jesus did not promise to change the circumstances around us. He promised great peace and pure joy to those who would learn to believe that God actually controls all things.
Let God’s promises shine on your problems.
On Prayer
The wonderful thing about praying is that you leave a world of not being able to do something, and enter God’s realm where everything is possible. He specializes in the impossible. Nothing is too great for His almighty power. Nothing is too small for His love.
On Tomorrow
God has plans, not problems for our lives. The life of a Christian is an education for a higher service. God is training you for something.
Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for a future that only He can see.
Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.
