In spite of its reputation (among some folk) as a downer, the Bible is full of joyful song.
The song begins in the beginning, at creation: “The morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy.” (Job 38:6-7 NLT)
The center of the Bible – Psalms – is a songbook. Music is central to worship for Jews and Christians alike.
And the song continues to all the way to Revelation and many joyful songs at God’s throne.
But that is not quite the end. God gives songs even now.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
for he has done wonderful deeds.
His right hand has won a mighty victory;
his holy arm has shown his saving power! Psalm 98:1 NLT
New songs, never heard before, just for us.
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:3 NLT
Songs that invite us to sing.
I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
I will be filled with joy because of you.
I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2 NLT
So, do you have a song? Doesn’t matter what’s going on in your life. Songs new or old are welcome.
To sing is to pray twice.
Saint Augustine
