The other day, while I was hunting for something – anything! – to watch, I happened upon Brené Brown’s talk on Netflix. I liked it so much I watched it twice and am considering a third viewing. It is part of what generated yesterday’s post.

“Gratitude is a practice that shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present.”
*****
“Practicing gratitude is how we acknowledge that there’s enough and that we’re enough.”
*****
“Gratitude does not change the scenery. It merely washes clean the glass you look through so you can clearly see the colors.”
*****
“Gratitude is a practice, not just a state of mind. It’s a daily choice to appreciate the good.”
*****
“Practice gratitude to honor what’s ordinary about our lives, because that is what’s truly extraordinary.”
*****
“Gratitude is not about ignoring the pain but finding strength and joy in spite of it.”
*****
“In every moment of gratitude, we create a space for courage to thrive.”
*****
“Dare to be grateful even in the midst of vulnerability; it’s where true strength is found.”
*****
“In 12 years, I’ve never interviewed a single person who would describe their lives as joyful, who would describe themselves as joyous, who was not actively practicing gratitude.”
*****
“Twinkle lights are the perfect metaphor for joy. Joy is not a constant. It comes to us in moments—often ordinary moments. Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we’re too busy chasing down extraordinary moments. Other times we’re so afraid of the dark that we don’t dare let ourselves enjoy the light.
A joyful life is not a floodlight of joy. That would eventually become unbearable.
I believe a joyful life is made up of joyful moments gracefully strung together by trust, gratitude, inspiration, and faith.”
*****
“Embrace the power of gratitude; it will inevitably lead you to a more wholehearted life.”
