Oh, no! They are gone! There were three, but now there are none! I keep looking and looking but … nothing. What has happened? Is this my fault? Am I being punished? What can I do? This is terrible!
From my kitchen sink I can see the little hummingbird flying from place to place. She (I think it’s a she) is right: the feeders are gone. I took them. And right this minute I am cleaning and refilling them with fresh food.
But she doesn’t know that. She only knows there are no feeders. She pauses in her flight to hover by the window. I wonder if she can see what I am doing from so far away, if she has any idea of the benevolence at work.
I’m pretty sure she doesn’t. Before I finish my task and replace the feeders, she has flown away. But she will be back. And when she comes, she will find that the momentary trial has resolved itself. There is food in abundance. Her needs have been met by an invisible hand.
And this “invisible hand,” at any rate, is filled with delight.
The Invisible God says:
I will answer them before they even call to me.
While they are still talking about their needs,
I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 65: 24 NLT
