There was a great deal of bird activity outside the window. Were they doing what I thought they were doing?
Yep. For the second time this spring, an enterprising bird was building a nest — inside my dryer vent.
No. Nope. Not happening. Out came the ladder, up went my daughter and out came all the leaves, twigs and, yes, candy wrappers that were stuffed inside. We did this a couple of weeks ago and taped the mesh vent cover to the siding. Somehow, though, they found a way in. So, this time, I tightened the wire, and we used two pieces of tape. Large pieces of tape.
Now it’s just a matter of watching to make sure the fix works.
At least they hadn’t started laying eggs …

In their hearts human beings plan their lives.
But the Lord decides where their steps will take them.
Proverbs 16:9 New International Reader’s Version
Lord, I often think I have a really good idea only to have it shot down. My first impulse is to double down and try again even harder. And fail. Again. And again … Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results may not be the best definition of insanity, but it is definitely the definition of futility.
Perhaps if I listened, I could hear You telling me “Not here,” or “Not now,” or “Not yet.” It would certainly save me a lot of time, effort, and tears.
But that’s only if I listen.
This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is good for you
and leads you along the paths you should follow.
Isaiah 48:17 NLT
Teach me, Lord,
to listen.
