Last Saturday I planned to rest all day to recover from this virus. As I was cuddling with Hunter, I heard something in the garage. Was someone out there? Cautiously, I went to see. As I opened the door, the tail of a chipmunk disappeared around the corner and at my feet were shards of plastic from the door sweep it had been chewing on. (Of course, the door behind the sweep was a steel fire door, so Chip couldn’t have gotten in, but it is unnerving to think it was trying.) Something needed to be done.
This was not crashing into the wall like the virus. This was an unwelcome redirection of energies I wasn’t sure I had. I suppose I could ignore it. I need to rest, right? But this problem would not take care of itself.

I would have to pull everything away from the garage wall to fill and patch any holes that were there, then put everything back. I had what I needed to do the job, except strength.

So, I cleaned the garage. My body didn’t like it; some symptoms worsened, and new ones showed up. The job got done in fits and starts, but it got done. The holes are patched, and I haven’t seen the chipmunk …
Until Wednesday afternoon. Chip ran to the other side of the garage and chirped at me! It’s time to call in the guys with the traps. Let’s see what they can do.
