I recently bought a wireless doorbell kit with remotes for both front and back doors. It was quick to set up – until you got to the 52 ringtones. It took several minutes to listen to all of them and a lot longer to choose one for each door, never mind cataloging them in case I want to change my mind. Which I will, for Christmas.
God created music, and like everything God created, it is good and good for us. AARP reports that nearly all older adults (98%) polled stated they get some health-related benefit from music, including:
- Stress relief and relaxation (75%)
- Joy (73%)
- Improves mental health, mood or attitude (65%)
- Sparks memories or helps recall life events (61%)
- Motivates or energizes (60%)
- Helps them feel a spiritual or religious connection (36%)
- Keeps the mind sharp (31%)
- Connects them with others (27%)
- Reduces pain (7%)

“Music… will help dissolve your perplexities
and purify your character and sensibilities,
and in time of care and sorrow,
will keep a fountain of joy alive in you.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Music is readily available to us these days. Music has mind-blowing variety. Music is a pleasure. But enjoying music is a choice and an action. If a doorbell can have 52 tunes, surely we can find one that we like!

“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry,
and see a fine picture every day of his life,
in order that worldly cares may not obliterate
the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

When you are filled with the Spirit, you are empowered …
to sing and make music with your hearts attuned to God;

Release your heart’s joy in sweet music to the Eternal.
When the upright passionately sing glory-filled songs to Him,
everything is in its right place.
Psalm 33:1 The Voice
Wonderful! Thanks for the reminder! Music is a fine gift.
