“May I put on some music?” asked Jenna, on her way to the kitchen to make supper.
May you? “Of course,” I replied. “I love music!”
That’s not strictly true – I don’t understand jazz or appreciate country & western (Sorry). But I was raised on classical music, and there is not much I enjoy as much as a thundering symphony. Jenna knows this: she put on some Beethoven.

August comes with her own music – if we listen.
Birds singing to welcome the dawn.
The birds I heard today … sang as freshly as if it had been the first morning of creation.
Henry David Thoreau
Cicadas with their buzz-saw voices.
The cicadas, as if they were wired on the same circuit,
suddenly filled the garden with a loud burst of celebration.
Peter Carey
The wind circles and sighs.
Listen closely to the wind … it is the sound of leaves in the trees,
dancing and writing beautiful poetry across the skies.

Then, as night falls, crickets begin their chorus.
“When the cricket’s song is the only sound you hear,
how peaceful the whole earth seems.”
Marty Rubin
Look for the music in all things, and life will be a symphony of joy.
Igor Stravinsky
