To avoid doing the things God hates, hold fast to the teachings and truths in God’s word.
20 My son, keep your father’s command
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
21 Bind them always on your heart;
fasten them around your neck.
22 When you walk, they will guide you;
when you sleep, they will watch over you;
when you awake, they will speak to you.
23 For this command is a lamp,
this teaching is a light,
and correction and instruction
are the way to life,
Proverbs 6:20-23 NIV

The word of God is living and active.
When it is cherished and kept close, we benefit from its living power.
It then will lead us, it will keep us, and it will speak with us.
Anyone who wants God to lead, keep, or speak
should begin with cherishing God’s word.
