Justice

Posted on October 13, 2020October 11, 2020 by Pam R

The Lord loves what is righteous and just;
    his constant love fills the earth. Psalm 33:5 Good News Translation

God’s justice and love are one.
Infinite justice must be infinite love.
Justice is but another sign of love.
Frederick William Robertson

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
    therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
    Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18 New International Version

Grace is not looking for good men whom it may approve,
for it is not grace but mere justice to approve goodness.
[Rather] it is looking for condemned, guilty, speechless
and helpless men whom it may save, sanctify and glorify.
C. I. Scofield

We justify our actions by appearances; God examines our motives.
Clean living before God and justice with our neighbors
    mean far more to God than religious performance.
Proverbs 21:2-3 The Message

Justice is proactive, not reactive. If I fail to be just, no amount of subsequent penitence will make up for it. And who knows what great blessing I may have given – or received? [PR]

No, the Lord has told us what is good. What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God. Micah 6:8 Good News Translation

As I understand it, God wants me to strive for justice for all, even if it means relinquishing some of my personal rights. But relinquish to whom? To other people? No, that that leads to “doormat-ism,” false martyrdom, and pride (“see what a good person I am!”).

I think that I must relinquish my personal rights to Jesus. This is not a matter of pride but of practicality. Only in His keeping are they safe. Lord, I give You my “rights” so that You may work Your Justice through me. Amen [PR]

If you take care of yourself and walk with integrity,
you may be confident that God will deal with those who sin against you. Above all, don’t give birth to sin yourself;
rather, pray for those who persecute you.
God will one day turn your persecution into praise.
Warren Wiersbe

The essence of justice is mercy.
