“Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives;
the one who seeks finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
Do you hesitate to ask God for things? Me, too. I do that whole rationalization thing: “God has better things to do.” “Why would God listen to me?” “I can’t handle the disappointment of a ‘No’.”
But Jesus tells us over and over to ask. Asking glorifies God:
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:13-14 NIV
Asking and receiving brings us joy:
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
John 16:24 NIV
We have been chosen. Asking is part of that:
You did not choose me. Instead, I chose you. I appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit that will last. I also appointed you so that the Father will give you what you ask for. He will give you whatever you ask for in my name.
John 15:16 New International Reader’s Version
“Heaven is full of answers to prayer for which no one ever bothered to ask.”
Billy Graham
I have written this to you who believe in the Son of God so that you may know you have eternal life. And we are sure of this, that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. And if we really know he is listening when we talk to him and make our requests, then we can be sure that he will answer us. 1 John 5:13-15 Living Bible
God is waiting for you to ask.
Just ask!
