Three common patterns are seen in Jesus’s temptation, and Eve’s – as well as in ours.
The first is this.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.
For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.
During that time the devil came and said to him,
“If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But Jesus told him,
“No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:1-4 NLT
The first temptation in Matthew, is “the lust of the flesh” (NIV), or “a craving for physical pleasure (NLT).” (See 1 John 2:16-17) Eve saw that “the tree was beautiful, and its fruit looked delicious.” (Genesis 3:6) Jesus, though He was hungry, chose to obey and submit to God as supplier of all needs. And we are instructed,
