I finished posting Monday and made my way into the kitchen where a pile of dirty dishes greeted me. Apparently, I take “Sabbath: rest from all work” quite literally.
As I set about cleaning the mess, a song played in my head. “It’s all about You, Jesus …” Great song. Too good to keep to myself. Because it is “all about Jesus.” Not me.
I had a choice of several videos for this song. I chose this one instead of one with pretty pictures because it points to a reality.
He was despised and rejected—
a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief.
We turned our backs on him and looked the other way.
He was despised, and we did not care.
Isaiah 53:3 NLT
I am choosing not to turn my back and look the other way. It’s not about Him if I do that: it becomes all about me.

Lent is supposed to be all about Him. Sometimes we make it all about ourselves and our pride in the “things” we give up for a season. Maybe it should be different.
“Self-denial means knowing only Christ, and no longer oneself.
It means seeing only Christ, who goes ahead of us,
and no longer the path that is too difficult for us….
Self-denial is saying only: He goes ahead of us; hold fast to Him.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
