Mercy: compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power; compassion and love, not just feelings and emotions, expressed in tangible ways.
The Request
Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer. Psalm 4:1 NIV
Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord; may your love and faithfulness always protect me. Psalm 40: 11 NIV
The Reply
Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55: 7 NIV
The Response
Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. Psalm 28:6 NIV
There is no God like you. You forgive those who are guilty of sin; you don’t look at the sins [pass over the transgressions] of your people who are left alive [the remnant of your inheritance]. You will not stay angry forever, because you enjoy [delight in] being kind [mercy; lovingkindness].
Micah 7: 18 EXB (Expanded Bible)
I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.
Psalm 116: 1 NIV
