Last Saturday I posted the story of The Pastor’s Cat. It’s written from the point of view of the Pastor, who failed to rescue the kitten (or did he?). Then we see the perspective of the Mother, who placed impossible conditions on God (or did she?). Then it’s through the eyes of the child, who believed her Heavenly Father always answered prayer.
But what about the viewpoint of the cat? Cats climb trees; stories of cats getting stuck in trees abound. But I doubt that this kitten was thinking philosophically of how common its predicament was. It was so paralyzed with fright that even food couldn’t tempt it down. It’s whole being was focused on clinging tightly to the branch with all its might.
Then the tree began to bend. The cat could see the ground rising toward it. Soon it would be close enough to jump off and run away free, it thought, as it undoubtedly was promising itself that it would never, ever climb a tree again. Just a little more …
And suddenly there was no tree. There was only air and sky and a sick feeling. Everything was out of control. Cats are not supposed to fly.
Then instinct took over. Falling cats spread legs and paws in a parachute effect. Cats in this position have been known to survive falls from 32-story buildings.
So the kitten in our story, who found itself first in a precarious position up a tree, then catapulted helplessly into the air, fell into its forever home and into the arms of the child who trusted God with her heart’s desire.

A lot of us these days feel like we are stuck up a tree and paralyzed with fear. Many of us find ourselves catapulting into the air through no fault of our own, out of control and without a visible safety net. Whether this is story is “true” or not, the principle remains: God is as much in charge of our story as He was of that kitten’s. And the Rescue continues beyond today into forever. One day we will find that we have landed in our Forever Home, safely in the arms of the One Who loves us. Remember then, no matter how it looks right now: He’s got you. Always has. Always will.
