Faith is walking face-first and full-speed into the dark.
If we truly knew all the answers in advance as to the meaning of life and the nature of God and the destiny of our souls, our belief would not be a leap of faith and it would not be a courageous act of humanity;
it would just be… a prudent insurance policy.
Elizabeth Gilbert
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s family. Go to the land I will show you.”
So Abram went, just as the Lord had told him. Lot went with him.
Abram was 75 years old when he left Harran.
Genesis 12: 1, 4 New International Reader’s Version
I am a healthy septuagenarian, but the idea of uprooting from all I know is daunting. Yet Abraham obeyed. Yes, people lived longer in those days, yes, his wealth was portable, yes, he received spectacular promises.
But he was 75 years old. Livestock is cumbersome to move. And he never saw the fulfillment of those promises. (Hebrews 11:13.) But,
Abraham had faith. So he obeyed God. God called him to go to a place he would later receive as his own. So he went. He did it even though he didn’t know where he was going. Hebrews 11:8 NIRV
He didn’t know where he was going. He was dependent upon God’s guidance. Everywhere. All the time. Just like us.
Living a life of faith means never knowing where you are being led.
Oswald Chambers
God promised Abraham a lot of descendants. And when it all seemed hopeless, Abraham still had faith in God and became the ancestor of many nations. Romans 4:18 Contemporary English Version
Christmas celebrates the fulfillment of the promise:
God made promises to Abraham and his Descendant. The Scripture does not say, “and to your descendants.” That would mean many people. But it says, “and to your Descendant.” That means only one, and that one is Christ. Galatians 3:16 Easy-to-Read Version
When we live with a genuine faith in God, we are not afraid to dream, imagine, sacrifice, or take risks. Our confidence is in the God of Scripture, whose presence and power flow through those who have chosen to believe. (unknown)
“… called the Friend of God.” What more could anyone ask?
