I was sitting on the patio when I heard a strange buzzing over my head. There was a hummingbird hovering about 2 feet above my left shoulder looking in the sliding glass door. It hovered, flew a short distance, then returned to hover again. It didn’t seem to know – or care – that I was there.
At one point, when it had moved away, I put my hand up, hoping it would land. It didn’t, but it didn’t fly away either.
When I got up to go in for supper, my companion left. But the sense of awe and delight remains with me still.
