By Francis of Assisi
Most high, all powerful, all good Lord!
All praise is Yours, all glory, all honor, and all blessing.
To You, alone, Most High, do they belong.
No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your name.
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
Revelation 7:12 New Living Translation
Be praised, my Lord, through all Your creatures,
especially through my lord Brother Sun,
who brings the day; and You give light through him.
And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor!
Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness.
Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars;
in the heavens You have made them bright, precious and beautiful.
Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Psalm 148:3 NLT
Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms,
and all the weather, through which You give Your creatures sustenance.
Praise him, lightning and hail, snow and clouds.
Praise him, you stormy winds that obey him.
Psalm 148:8 New International Reader’s Version
Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water;
she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! He fills the sky with clouds, sending showers to water the earth
so that the grass springs up on the mountain fields and the earth produces food for man.
Psalm 147: 1a, 8 The Passion Translation
Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom You brighten the night.
He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong.
O Lord my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty.
The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants.
Psalm 104: 1, 4 NLT
Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth,
who feeds us and rules us, and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs.
You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use.
You allow them to produce food from the earth— wine to make them glad,
olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength.
Psalm 104:14-15 NLT
Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of You;
through those who endure sickness and trial.
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you.
Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Colossians 3:13 NLT
Happy those who endure in peace,
for by You, Most High, they will be crowned.
God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation.
Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 NLT
(I have omitted the last stanza, written on Francis’ deathbed.)
