“All My Fault”

Posted on June 4, 2024 by Pam R

I’m reading a series of books where the characters are Christians. They’re a quick read, and the plots are interesting. But each character eventually says, “It’s all my fault.” I think everyone feels that way from time to time. But is it true?

I heard someone say, “The first thing we do is find someone to blame.” That’s kind of Biblical.

* Then Sarai said to Abram, “This is all your fault! (Genesis 16:5 NLT)

* “We are given no straw, but the slave drivers still demand, ‘Make bricks!’ We are being beaten, but it isn’t our fault! Your own people are to blame!” (Exodus 5:16 NLT)

* “How dare you go on persecuting me, saying, ‘It’s his own fault’? (Job 19:28 NLT)

* I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.” (Jonah 1:12 NLT)

Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent, and the serpent didn’t have a leg to stand on. (Sorry. That’s my fault.)

********

But what does the New Testament say about our “faults?”

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ
to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Ephesians 1:4
NLT

Yet now he has reconciled you to himself
through the death of Christ in his physical body.
As a result, he has brought you into his own presence,
and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him
without a single fault.
Colossians 1:22
NLT

*********

Chosen, reconciled, holy and blameless. God sees us faultless in Christ. But we stumble. What then?

Even when everyone else only sees our faults,
God still sees our possibilities.

(unknown)

Make allowance for each other’s faults,
and forgive anyone who offends you.
Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Colossians 3:13
NLT

Remember, God is not surprised by your inabilities,
your imperfections, or your faults.
He has always known everything about you
that you are just now finding out,
and he chose you on purpose for himself.
Joyce Meyer

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and
will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault.
Jude 1:24 NLT

    Thanks, Pam
It’s taken a long time for me to realize that everything is not my fault. A work in progress, I think.
