I have a bedtime ritual with my cats: when I’m ready to close down, I offer them treats – to get them out of my room for the night. Zoey can’t be bothered: she doesn’t like “treats” and my command is enough. But Hunter is all about a bedtime snack. He typically gets his on the step by the front door. And if I don’t close my door quickly enough, he sneaks back in for another snack!
Recently, though, Hunter has taken to sitting on the step at all times of the day, in perfect cat posture, and gazing at me fixedly and hopefully. This is so cute that I usually succumb and give him treats. As soon as he sees them coming, he sits even straighter, visibly excited.
It’s still cute when he tries it several times in a row, although, for him, not quite so rewarding. I have to say “no” at some point, don’t I? For his character, I mean.

As God’s beloved child, I have the right and privilege to ask for what I want. Knowing I am loved. Knowing I am heard. Waiting for the answer with expectant confidence. Because,
If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him! Matthew 7:11 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
