The Lord’s Prayer

Posted on April 9, 2022April 7, 2022 by Pam R

Matthew 6:7-13 Amplified Bible

7 “And when you pray, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

9 “Pray, then, in this way [as a model or pattern]:

‘Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed
[set apart, keep and treat as holy, revere] be Your name.
10 ‘Your kingdom come [here on earth],
Your will be done [Including what God wishes to be done by the individual believer—His commands and precepts]
On earth as it is in heaven [where God’s will is always done].

11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread [all of life’s essentials].
12 ‘And forgive us our debts [sins, moral failures], as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment].

Some traditions say, “Forgive us our trespasses.”
Debts can be sins of omission (see James 4:17; Trespasses are sins of commission.
We need forgiveness for both.

13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, [lead us away from situations where we are vulnerable and have the opportunity to sin.]

God does not tempt man (see James 1:13) but does allow man to be tested.

but deliver us from evil. [or the evil one]

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen [let it be so].’

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the Universe,
Who loves us, teaches us to pray and invites us into fellowship with You.

A Prayer for Palm Sunday (based on Mark 11:9-10):

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the Universe,
For in Your Son, Jesus Christ, You rode into our lives to ransom us from sin.
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
Give us grace this Holy Week to focus on the One Who comes to reign in our hearts.
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Open our eyes that may clearly recognize Him though He veiled His power and glory for our sake.

“Hosanna! Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” [Psalm 118:26]
In the name of our conquering King Jesus,
Amen.
