Submission to God is a choice based on our knowledge of Him.
* Do I believe that God loves me?
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!
1 John 3:1a NLT
* Do I believe that God has plans for me?
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
* Do I believe that God has the power to see those plans through?
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NLT
* Do I believe that He will?
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NLT
Then, if God is all-powerful, all-loving, all-wise, then it is safe to submit to Him.
And this is what submission means:
Father God,
I entrust my burdens to You.
I submit my thoughts to You.
I offer my heart to You.
I commit my plans to You.
I surrender my will to You.
I want to be obedient to You
even when I don’t know where I am going.
Even if You ask me to give up something.
Even if it is going to hurt.
I love You and choose to trust You.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen

Knowing that God asks you to live a certain way for your own benefit,
because He knows life only works out right for you when it is lived on His terms,
will help you desire to know His ways and to live in them.
