Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days and nights. We are not quite half-way through the 40 days of Lent, and it already feels like it’s been forever.
Of course, Jesus didn’t live in the urgent, anxious world we do. He didn’t have a to-do list, or commitments to juggle. He didn’t have constant interruptions. He had time to breathe, to think, to enjoy Kairos time with God.
The difference, I think, is that He was constantly aware of – and totally living in – God’s presence. Adam had that connection, too – until it was broken by sin. Jesus came to teach us how to regain it.
It is possible to feel alone.
It is impossible to be alone.
God is always with you.
There is not a place or time where God is not.
Free will allows you to place your focus on God or on your loneliness.
That is your choice.
James Blanchard Cisneros
God promised Moses, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14 NIV
Jesus confirmed it, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b NIV
Sounds good, you say. But what if I can’t make it happen? But you don’t “make” it happen. God does. He has promised and He keeps His promises.
God is our Teacher. He makes His presence known to us when we make space for Him.
You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:11 NIV
Our task is to listen, practice, and learn.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. Psalm 89:15 NIV
**********
Tomorrow is Sunday, the “day of rest,” a good time to practice the presence of God.
God tells us to seek Him.
You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word]. Psalm 27:8 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
And when we do, He promises to be found.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 NIV
There is no time to begin like the present.
