Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence him. With them alone he shares the secrets of his promises. Psalm 25:14 TLB
You are my friends when you do the things I command you. I’m no longer calling you servants because servants don’t understand what their master is thinking and planning. No, I’ve named you friends because I’ve let you in on everything I’ve heard from the Father. John 15:13-15 MSG
The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.
2 Corinthians 13:14 MSG
Imagine your relationship to the Trinity as friendship (affection, harmony, understanding)! The Psalmist says God promises to share His secrets with His friends, those who reverence (admire, respect, honor) Him. Jesus says that obedience (acceptance, reverence, compliance, submission) makes us His friends, with whom He shares His thoughts and plans. Then Paul’s benediction, in addition to Christ’s amazing grace and the Father’s extravagant love, includes the Holy Spirit’s intimate friendship.
Each Person of the Trinity, forever in loving communion with each other, desires friendship with us. But true friendship takes time to build. And every friendship, especially this one, is one-of-a-kind, custom made, a new creation.
So, today I am imagining sitting with God, spending time as friends do, sharing all I am with all He is, friend to Friend. I am imagining sitting at Jesus’ feet, learning – and finally understanding – amazing things. And I imagine moving through my days with the Spirit within me, closer than my breath.
Does it take time? Sure, but the benefits are eternal. And where else, and with Who else, is it safe to be exactly who I am, mistakes and all?
