Ten days ago, the groundhog saw his shadow. At least they said he did. I wasn’t there. But looking out at the snow and thermometer, I believed it.
That is, until today. Although we no longer have bird feeders in our garden, the neighbors do. We can still watch all the swooping and fluttering. As I was enjoying the show, I noticed something closer to home. There was a robin in my garden! No, wait! Two robins!
I have always told myself that to see a robin anywhere meant spring was coming. To see one in my yard meant spring was here. Yet the ground is covered with ice and snow. And yet there are robins.
So, did the groundhog get it wrong? Is it evidence of climate change?
Or maybe I just put too much faith in a couple of birdbrains.
