I love solar lights. I remember sitting on the patio in the evening, watching the lights come on in the garden. It looked like a fairy land.
That was a while ago and those lights were amber and white. I remember the first time I saw a color-changing solar light. Magic! From then on, that was all I wanted to have. I’ve had all kinds of lights, bird- and flower-shaped lights, and most recently, hanging solar lights. All are beautiful. All give me a thrill of pleasure.
At 6-7 hours a day, though, none last very long: two – maybe three – years tops. Then the solar battery will no longer charge. They are subject to the elements and are not made to last forever.
Just recently I purchased new lights. These hanging lights are formed like a wind chime and shaped like candles. The first few days were November-gloomy. The lights only managed to shine for about an hour.
Poor lights. I know how they feel. With my fatigue, I often have just an hour to shine, too.
But then one day, the sun shone. All day! And the lights, which came on at 5, were still going when I went to bed at 9.
And all it took was light to make light.

The Bible has a lot to say about light – and dark.
The light still shines in the darkness and the darkness has never put it out. John 1:5 J.B. Phillips New Testament
If God is light (and He is), and the dark can never win (because God’s light is everywhere), then neither will the darkness I experience with my Chronic Fatigue. A gloomy, one-hour-of-light day is just a day.
Then I found this:
God isn’t present in the past or future. The great ‘I Am’ is in the present moment.
When I claim that presence, I can get through anything today.

And this:
No one really has a bad life. Not even a bad day. Just bad moments.

That is a perspective I can really use. Because the One Who made me will never run out of Light or Life.
Lord, you keep the lamp of my life burning brightly.
You are my God. You bring light into my darkness. Psalm 18:28 New International Reader’s Version
Today, I will enjoy whatever light I have and be grateful.
