I would have said that I am not the girl who forgets to set the clocks back. I usually do it Saturday afternoon; then go around mentally adjusting the time. But as of Sunday morning, I am that girl.
I don’t know if it was euphoria of a (finally) clean house, or the effects of Chronic Fatigue, but I totally lost sight of the fact that it was “Fall Back” time. It is possible, too, that I don’t run on external time anymore. Most of the time there is nowhere I need or any reason to watch the clock. I guess that is good.
Anyway, I woke Sunday, looked at the clock, and remembered.
I have 9 clocks, not counting my wristwatch. Most of them are the simple press-a-few-buttons type. Done and done. But two are new, and poke and prod as I might, resisted resetting. They insisted on setting multiple alarms or giving me 24-hour clocks, neither of which I wanted.
I had to break down and read the instructions.
Darn.
**********
“When all else fails, read the instructions.” But I wonder why we have to get to the point of failure first.
God offers instruction:
I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life; I will advise you and watch your progress. Psalm 32:8 Living Bible
But we are responsible for taking it:
Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,
and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. Proverbs 16:20 New International Version
When God gives us clear instruction through His Word or His Spirit within us,
our response shows how much we trust Him.”
Charles Stanley
So, in the end, it all comes down to trust. Do I trust myself, with my abysmal track record, or do I trust God’s instruction?
Trust in the Lord completely,
and do not rely on your own opinions.
With all your heart rely on him to guide you,
and he will lead you in every decision you make. Proverbs 3:5 The Passion Translation
Today, I choose to read the instructions – first!
