It’s the first day of summer. As delightful as that sounds, summer can be hot and cranky, even more so now that we are dealing with global warming. (No matter your views, the truth is that summer can be … difficult.)
The other uncomfortable truth about the summer solstice is this: now the days are going to get shorter until we sink back again into autumn and winter. As Shakespeare said, “Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”
But that’s way down the road. Let’s think about now, and celebrate this season.
Summer was created for us by God.
You own the day and the night.
Sunlight and starlight call you Creator.
The four corners of the earth were formed by your hands,
and every changing season owes its beauty to you. Psalm 74:16-17 The Passion Translation
Summer invites us to sit back and rest.
Summer is full of God’s goodness.
In bygone days he permitted the nations to go their own ways, but he never left himself without a witness; there were always his reminders—the kind things he did such as sending you rain and good crops and giving you food and gladness.” Acts 14:16-17 Living Bible
Summer is for enjoying.
Summer is a blessing. and a blessing calls for praise.
Hallelujah!
You who serve God, praise God!
Just to speak his name is praise!
Just to remember God is a blessing—
now and tomorrow and always.
From east to west, from dawn to dusk,
keep lifting all your praises to God! Psalm 113:1-3 The Message
