Please read these verses in your own Bible or online (Bible Gateway: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1%3A+15-19&version=NIV The notes are from my studies.
v 15-18a Paul is not naïve. He sees that some preach out of love and some out of competitive envy and ambition. But it doesn’t matter; he lets God sort out the motives and keeps his eyes on the bottom line: Christ is being preached.
v 18b-19 Paul’s confidence that he will be released is based on 1) people were praying for him, 2) the Spirit was at work, and 3) God is always in control.
(From indications in 1 Timothy, Titus and 2 Timothy, scholars think that Paul was released from this 2+ year imprisonment, and that he preached several more years before his final imprisonment and death.)

O Lord, when faced with people trying to make trouble for him, Paul responds, “What does it matter?” Of course he faced opposition all the time, but I become so unsettled. I overthink and doubt myself, buying into the whole “I must be wrong/bad/stupid” shaming thing. I rarely understand others’ motives; I rarely see my own. And I get so discouraged.
Which is why I need to stop looking around and consider only what You say is true.

And thank You for this song. May the words sing in my mind and delight my soul. I am who you say I am. Amen.
