I got up, stretched and took some deep breaths. Because I can.
I opened the windows to the cool May air and listened to the birds. Because I can.
I sat in my favorite chair with a cat purring on my lap. Because I can.
I read the e-newspaper. Because I can.
I got dressed, putting on my favorite shirt. Because I can.
I made a cup of coffee with my favorite creamer. Because I can.
I turned to talk to my daughter, and knocked the coffee over, spilling it on the counter, the cabinets, inside the cabinets, on the floor and all over me.
(Sigh.) Everything had been going so well, too.
Several towels wiped up the mess. But there would have to be a serious cleaning today. I mean, creamer! Inside cabinets and drawers. Sticky, right?
It wasn’t in my plan, but I guess I can.
I took a moment to change clothes. Then we sat down for breakfast. I was feeling better, but Jenna was pretty quiet. I asked her why she wasn’t cheering me up. She just looked at me, and then said, “While you were in your room, I saw an ant.”

I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power. Philippians 4:12-14 Living Bible (TLB)
Today, I will deep-clean the kitchen, pulling everything out of cabinets and drawers, wiping and polishing. Because I have to. And because I can.
Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.
Theodore Roosevelt
Which reminds me: I’m going to need more towels.
