5 Days until Spring

Posted on March 14, 2020March 9, 2020 by Pam R

For me, there are several signs of spring:

*Daylight Saving Time leaves me a grouchy mess.
Check. It takes about a week to reset my internal clock. (sigh)

*The spring bulbs start to come up.
Check: I already see little green shoots.

*The mallards return.
Check: Each year a pair of mallard ducks visit the bird feeders in early spring. In a few weeks there will be a cloud of yellow ducklings on their way to the nearest pond. If we are lucky, we will see them.

*I see the first robin.
I always think that seeing the first robin anywhere means spring is coming, and seeing the first robin in my yard means spring is here! Still waiting this year… but it’s early yet.
(Of course, the day after I wrote this, I saw a robin! In my yard! Check and check!)

*The trees and shrubs begin to put out leaves.
Still watching… won’t be long now!

*The rising sun, on its “journey” north, shines between 2 buildings and hits me right in the eyes as I sit on the couch in the morning.
Check. So maybe I’ll change my seat for the next couple of weeks.

Bottom line, though: spring is coming, just as God promised it would.

“As long as the earth lasts, there will always be a time to plant
and a time to gather the crops.
As long as the earth lasts, there will always be cold and heat.
There will always be summer and winter, day and night.”
Genesis 8:21-22 New International Reader’s Version (NIRV)

The day the Lord created hope was
probably the same day he created Spring. – Bernard Williams
