Confidence

Posted on March 5, 2020March 1, 2020 by Pam R

If God were not Omnipotent, then would it fall to me
To hold the stars in heaven and the water in the sea?
To bring the summer sunshine and cause everything to grow,
To dress the trees for autumn and then send the winter snow?
But if He has sufficient strength to keep the stars in line,
Then surely He can handle any circumstance of mine.

And all that is required of me is simply to believe;
With both my hands wide open, waiting, grateful to receive.
And just as I don’t worry if the sun will rise or no,
I need not fear: Omnipotence can vanquish every foe.

**********

If God were not Omniscient, then would I have to know
This histories of planets and the earth and sea below?
The names of all the stars and beasts and plants and fish and birds?
All languages and dialects, the meanings of all words?
But if He know quite clearly what has been and what will be,
Then surely he knows everything before it touches me.

And all that is required of me is simply to believe;
With both my hands wide open, waiting, grateful to receive.
And I don’t have to worry through the universe expands:
Omnipotent Omniscience has my future in His hands.

**********

If God were not All-Present, would that mean that I could be
In places that He could not go to guard and comfort me?
That I could step out of His range of sight and sound and love
To spaces that held fear and death in earth or sky above?
But if He’s present everywhere and if His eye’s on me,
His might power and wisdom to protect and to foresee:

Then all that is required of me is simply to believe;
With both my hands wide open, waiting, grateful to receive.
And I can live with confidence, secure in what I know:
Omnipotent Omniscience reigns wherever I might go.
