The Perfect Lamb

Posted on April 1, 2026 by Pam R

The animal you select must be a one-year-old male,
with no defects.
Exodus 12:5 NLT

How do you know the animal has no defects? You examine it.

***

After cleansing the Temple,
Jesus is examined and opposed by religious authorities.
Their growing hostility functions as an ironic confirmation
of His selection as the sacrificial Lamb.

***

Then the Pharisees met together to plot how to trap Jesus into
saying something for which he could be arrested.
Matthew 22:15 NLT

The Pharisees:
Now tell us what you think about this:
Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Matthew 22:17 NLT

Jesus:
“Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar,
and give to God what belongs to God.”
Matthew 22:21 NLT

His reply amazed them, and they went away.

Matthew 22:22 NLT

***

That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—
religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead.

Matthew 22:23 NLT

The Sadducees:
So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection?
For all seven were married to her.”
Matthew 22:28 NLT

Jesus:
“Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures,
and you don’t know the power of God.”
Matthew 22:29 NLT

When the crowds heard him, they were astounded at his teaching.
Matthew 22:33 NLT

***

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply,
they met together to question him again.

Matthew 22:34 NLT

Expert in religious law:
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40 NLT

***
Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question:
“What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”

They replied, “He is the son of David.”
[Jesus said], “Since David called the Messiah ‘my Lord,’

how can the Messiah be his son?”
No one could answer him.
And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions.

Matthew 22:3341-42, 45-46 NLT

***

“Consider the Lamb must be without spot or blemish;
and so was Christ only of all mankind, in the sight of God and of His law.”
