As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said,
“This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late.
Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
Matthew 14:15-17 NIV

One morning I was reading the story of Jesus’ feeding of the five thousand.
The disciples could find only five loaves of bread and two fishes.
‘Let me have them,’ said Jesus. He asked for all.
He took them, said the blessing,
and broke them before He gave them out.
I remembered what a chapel speaker…had said:
‘If my life is broken when given to Jesus,
it is because pieces will feed a multitude,
while a loaf will satisfy only a little lad.’

They all ate and were satisfied,
and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces
that were left over.

I love that our small gifts placed in the hands of Jesus get multiplied.
