O Lord, what an amazing variety of all you have created!
Wild and wonderful is this world you have made,
while wisdom was there at your side.
This world is full of so many creatures, yet each belongs to you!
Psalm 104:24 The Passion Translation (TPT)
We justify the expense of feeding the birds by calling it a “Kitty Reality Show,” but as much as the cats enjoy it, it is mostly for us humans. And it is a joy-giver. And not just because of the birds.
The other day, Zoey was sitting in front of the dining room window, watching us eat. Behind her, the sparrows were applying themselves to their lunch in the usual rhythm: eat, retreat, eat, retreat . . .
“Look, Zoey!” we said. She looked . . . at us.
I moved to direct her view, and out of the corner of her eye she finally caught sight of the birds.
Now she hunkered down and watched. But the birds, not 2 feet from her on the other side of the window, were too tempting. She lunged, hit the glass and stopped – abruptly frustrated as the birds flew away.
We could see her considering this. Then she moved – to hide behind the curtain.
Now she could peek at them, and dream about what she would do if only that silly glass wasn’t in the way.

Lord, there are so many wonderful things around me: things to see, hear and enjoy. Forgive me for the times when I was too preoccupied to recognize the amazing gift of Your creation. I am so grateful to be alive here and now. Help me, no matter what, to keep in the front of my mind that You are good, gracious and generous beyond understanding. Give me eyes to see You everywhere I look. I love You. Amen.
Above all else, know this: Be prepared at all times for the gifts of God and be ready always for new ones. For God is a thousand times more ready to give than we are to receive. Meister Eckhart
