Beauty pageants, palace intrigue, hostility, plotting, revenge, the book of Esther feels like a soap opera. If you are unfamiliar with the story, take a few minutes to read it.
Did you notice something? The book of Esther is unique because God is never mentioned. But His providence, His presence and His hand are there on every page.
The highlight of the story is Queen Esther’s courageous intervention for the sake of her people. Her cousin, Mordecai, tells her this:
“Do not think that because you are in the king’s house
you alone of all the Jews will escape.
For if you remain silent at this time,
relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place,
but you and your father’s family will perish.
And who knows but that you have come to your royal position
for such a time as this?”
Esther 4:13-14 NIV

We live in dark times, too. And we are given the opportunity – and choice – to take a stand against wrong. Because we are here for a purpose – for such a time as this.

And now consider this.
You know well the times you are living in.
It is time for you to wake up and see what is right before your eyes:
for salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.
The darkness of night is dissolving as dawn’s light draws near,
so walk out on your old dark life and put on the armor of light.
