Oregon Trail

Posted on June 17, 2024 by Pam R

Years ago, we were given a copy of the Oregon Trail card game. Oldest person goes first, so I picked a card and read, “You died of Cholera.” Wow. Fun! Rules dictate that the game continue with the remaining players. I don’t remember if it did. I was dead, right? But I was reminded of it last week when I suddenly hit the wall with an unexpected virus.

Of course, it could have been anything that sidelined me — or you. But the result is the same. Everything stops for you. Everything — and everyone else — keeps going. We all experience it.

Yet man is born to trouble
as surely as sparks fly upward.
Job 5:7 NIV

Of course, I just drew the virus-card, and I’m almost over it. Some things are longer and much more difficult. You know best what “cards” you are currently “playing.” But don’t give up.

I have told you all this so that you may find your peace in me.
You will find trouble in the world—but never lose heart,
I have conquered the world!”
John 16:33 Phillips

Life is not a game. What may seem random, is not. It is uniquely planned for each one by a loving Creator.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those
who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28 NIV

So, hang on, hang in there. You are not alone, and there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark,
you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off.
You sit still and trust the engineer.
